The aim: to develop your research techniques and skills.

Who is it for: those who are underway with their research and are looking to develop more advanced techniques.

What do we cover: recent developments in FH research; digital technology for FH; looking at the wider historical and social aspects of FH.

Family History Getting Started

The aim: to get you started discovering your ancestors and their lives.

What we cover: the BASICS – where; what; why; who; how to …

Who is it for: anyone beginning their family history journey.

The format: a combination of talks, discussions, hints and tips.

Farnham Local History

Farnham and the surrounding area is rich in history. Group members are encouraged to contribute their knowledge and investigations. Some guest speakers.

History of Science

We will be looking at some of the most important scientific discoveries and theories, the people involved and their impact. No scientific knowledge is necessary but group members will be expected to make a contribution and perhaps do some research of their own.

Military History

We have presentations covering a variety of aspects – personnel, strategy, logistics, intelligence gathering, training, the evolution of weapons and their impact on battle tactics from ancient times to the present day.

World History: Ancient, Medieval and Modern

A diverse group where the members have a passion for history. The group offers a variety of talk formats ranging from 80 minute talks on a single subject, short talks by several presenters on a theme, debates, interviews and occasional book reviews. We cover World History from Ancient times through the Medieval years to the Present. Our meetings usually use our successful hybrid format giving members the choice of joining the meeting in the Maltings or using our Zoom link to tune in from home.

Meets fortnightly, on Monday, from 10:00 to 12:00.

Most meetings will use the successful hybrid format i.e. meeting in person at the Maltings AND via Zoom link.
